PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Emmy award-winning actress Lynn Whitfield will be the keynote speaker for University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Spring 2016 graduates.

The free, public event will be held Saturday, May 7 at 3:00 p.m. in the Pine Bluff Convention Center Arena.

One of the most respected members of the African-American acting community, Lynn Whitfield was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She credits watching classic movies on television with her grandmother as the inspiration for her career. She loved storytelling and creating characters as memorable as those performances she admired on screen. Today, the Emmy Award-winning actress has established a solid reputation for the authenticity she brings to her portrayal of women from all walks of life.

UAPB to mark 143 years during founder’s celebration

PINE BLUFF, Ark. –– The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will mark its 143rd Founder’s Celebration April 18-24.

With the theme, “Time to Transition: Celebrating the Past, Present and Future,” the schedule of events celebrates the diversity present at UAPB and honors the traditions that have been around for decades.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, one of the leading intellectual voices in the country, will be the keynote speaker for the Men’s Day Celebration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB).

The free, public event will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at 11 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr. HPER Complex.

Hill is the host of HuffPost Live and BET News, as well as a political contributor for CNN. He is also the former host of the nationally syndicated television show Our World With Black Enterprise and a political contributor to Fox News Channel. An award-winning journalist, Dr. Hill has received numerous prestigious awards from the National Association of Black Journalists, GLAAD, and the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

Wold renowned Kinsey Collection Comes to MTCC

Join MTCC for the opening of our largest exhibit to date, African American Treasures from the Kinsey Collection. This once in a life changing exhibit, that is currently on display at Epcot Center at Walt Disney World will open at MTCC on Friday, April 8, at 6PM. The exhibit contains rare, one of a kind artifacts that will be displayed in Arkansas for the first time ever. These artifacts work to dispel the myth of absence and demonstrate that African American history is American history.

The opening will feature a presentation by the Kinseys, refreshments, and live entertainment provided by Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers.

Lyceum event to discuss Black Lives Matter

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - An associate professor from the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law will be giving a presentation, "Do Black Lives Matter?" at the Lyceum event at UAPB.

On Tuesday, March 29, Adjoa A. Aiyetoro will be speaking at the Cross-Phipps auditorium of Caldwell Hall to address remedies for historical and present day conflict amongst people of color, women and other oppressed groups.

UAPB Vesper Choir to be featured at ASO performance

MAUMELLE, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir, will be the featured choir with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, Feb. 28.

The Vesper Choir has performed with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in the past and has expressed joy to have been selected for this performance opportunity again. The choir will be featured in the performance of “Chicester Psalms” by Leonard Bernstein.
