Vesper Choir to present annual concert May 3

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Vesper Choir, under the direction of Dr. Michael J. Bates, assisted by Dr. Melissa Davis, will present their annual spring concert on Friday, May 3at 6:00 pm in the J.M. Ross Theatre of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building on the UAPB campus. 

This free, public concert concludes a season that included performances to large and appreciative audiences at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS; Southeast Arkansas Community College in Forrest City, AR; and South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado, AR.The Choir also sang for schools and churches in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Dermott, Memphis, Southaven, MS, and Pine Bluff. 

The Vesper Choir survived a potentially tragic bus accident at the beginning of their annual spring tour and went on to present concerts and sing for the worship services at eight churches and five schools in Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit.

LRFW 5 Model Search is this weekend!

Hopeful models are preparing this week for auditions of the fifth annual Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW), a weeklong of high fashion, entertainment and network events scheduled in mid-July.

The model search will be held May 4 and May 5 at the Holiday Inn Presidential Hotel, located at 600 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Ark., 72202 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Male and female models of all ages and sizes are welcomed. They are required to wear a plain black t-shirt with no logos and wear jeans pants. Females need to bring high heel shoes, and no make-up and accessories are allowed. Models will be deducted points for not following instructions.

Results of models selected will be posted on www.littlerockfashionweek.com/models.php by May 13. If selected, models’ rehearsal is scheduled for June 2 and July 14 at Horace Mann Arts and Science Magnet School, located 1000 East Roosevelt Rd, Little Rock, Ark. 72206, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Little Rock, Ark – Brandon D. Campbell, the creator and executive producer of Little Rock Fashion Week, is the guest speaker at the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Iowa City, IA. He’s appearing at the UI April 19th through 23rd.

“I’m greatly honored to be returning to Iowa to share my experiences.” says Campbell. “The University of Iowa provided so many resources for me in the early stages of my career. My experiences there taught me a lot about business, and I discovered who I am and what my passions were. I consider it be a dream come true to provide insight and my resources to students at my alma mater”

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Twenty historically black colleges and universities convened on the campus of Coppin State University for the 77th Annual National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts in Baltimore, Maryland. The John McLinn Ross Players of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) were there and represented well in the Allen Williams Play Festival, winning third place for an hour long version of the musical, Once on This Island, directed by Cheryl Collins, Director of Theatre.

Little Rock – Brandon D. Campbell, the founder of Little Rock Fashion Week, is named by Arkansas Life magazine as a Style Setter.  

“This is a great honor,” says Campbell. “I’m prideful to be recognized by a credible magazine such as Arkansas Life for my contributions to my home state. I appreciate those who've allowed me to share my vision to entertain through my ventures. I’m thankful for my family, staff, and supporters.”

In the April issue of Arkansas Life it celebrates “the design savvy Arkansans who influence and inspire us – and prove this really is the land of opportunity.”

Vesper Choir tour to continue despite bus incident

Illinois – Despite enduring a bus accident, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir continues their Spring Tour which includes performances in Wisconsin and Michigan. Based on a report from the News-Gazette, the bus driver dozed off somewhere near Ratoul, IL and drove into the median. One person was treated at the scene while the other four were treated at a nearby hospital and released the same day.

 

Dr. Bates, director of the more than 60 voice ensemble and interim chairperson of the Department of Music was one of the passengers affected by the incident.

 

“The group is very resilient,” said Dr. Bates, noting that the members exhibited their cohesion as a group and showed a great deal of concern for each other. “We are thankful for the outpouring of concern from alumni, university officials and others. We are glad that something more serious hadn’t happened.”

Little Rock, Ark. - Little Rock Fashion Week (LRFW) is still accepting fashion design applicants, wanting to showcase their clothing lines at the fifth annual Little Rock Fashion Week, scheduled for July 15-20, 2013 at various locations in downtown Little Rock. The final application postmark deadline is April 15, 2013.

Founded by entertainment producer Brandon Campbell in 2009, LRFW has showcased over 75 fashion brands by local, national, international and student designers; been attended by fashion and entertainment executives from E! Entertainment, Style Network, MTV, NBC, Dillard's, Otis School of Fashion (Los Angeles), and Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
