PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas Department of Correction will begin transferring female inmates to the agency's work-release program in Pine Bluff on Saturday.

The Pine Bluff Re-entry Center will house 54 women. Qualifications for those able to be in the program include those that are within 30 months of parole, with non-violent convictions and have a clean disciplinary record.

As part of the program, the inmates will work paid jobs in the community under SAJ Distributors Inc., Tyson and AmeriPride. They will use their income to partially reimburse the state for their care and custody and provide one-third to any dependents.

According to officials, this program will allow them to open up beds for county jail transfers. As of now, around 205 female state inmates remained locked up in county jails.
