Arkansas River Revival runs Oct. 20-29

Forty years ago, President Richard Nixon dedicated the Arkansas River Navigation System, which was, at the time, the largest civil works project ever undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Named for its principal advocates, Senator John L. McClellan (Arkansas) and Senator Robert Kerr (Oklahoma), today the system is responsible for nearly $2 billion in trade transportation in Arkansas annually. In addition, the river provides a wealth of unique recreational and outdoor activities for Arkansas communities and families, as well as visitors to The Natural State.

To highlight the need for further economic development, the Arkansas River Connections is hosting the “Arkansas River Revival,” a 10-day flotilla event along the Arkansas River, October 20-29, 2011.

The Fifth Annual Chamber River Social will be held Oct. 15 at 6 pm at Riverwoods. There will be live and silent auctions, hor d’oeuvres, drinks, entertainment and a $2,500 grand prize.

ROGERS, Ark. -- Simmons First Bank of Northwest Arkansas recently announced the appointment of Nick Nabholz to the Board of Directors according to Thomas W. Spillyards, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Nabholz began his professional career at Nabholz Construction Services in 2001 working as a laborer and carpenter while attending high school. Nabholz attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he studied at the Walton College of Business, while also continuing to work for Nabholz Construction during breaks between academic semesters.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) -- Simmons First National Corporation recently announced the promotions of Randa L. Edwards to Vice President within the corporate executive office and Jessica A. Williams to Vice President in the audit group according to J. Thomas May, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Edwards joined Simmons First in 1983 within the Trust Division as an Administrative Assistant and has provided nearly 28 years of dedicated service to the company. She currently holds the position of Office Manger for the Corporate Executive Office and has previously served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman and CEO, Secretary to the Chairman, President and CEO and Executive Secretary to the President and Chief Executive Officer.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Simmons First National Corporation’s (NASDAQ-GS: SFNC) Board of Directors declared a regular $0.19 per share quarterly cash dividend payable October 3, 2011, to shareholders of record September 15, 2011.

Simmons First National Corporation is an eight-bank financial holding company with community banks in Pine Bluff, Lake Village, Jonesboro, Rogers, Searcy, Russellville, El Dorado and Hot Springs, Arkansas. PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Local businesses will have the opportunity to become acquainted with more than 3,000 student consumers during the Student Affairs Welcome Fair on Friday, August 26 at the W. E. O’Bryant Bell Tower from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. 

Interested vendors can download the form at www.uapb.edu. The completed form must be returned by Friday, August 19. Registered vendors will receive a confirmation packet with specifics about the day (i.e., parking, set-up instructions).
