UAPB to host U.S. Ambassador Perkins August 6

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - United States Ambassador Dr. Edward J. Perkins will visit the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Thursday, August 6. Ambassador Perkins will speak during an assembly at 6:15 p.m. in the J.M Ross theatre of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts building. The event is free and open to the public.

Ambassador Perkins served as the Clinton Administration’s representative to the Commonwealth of Australia from November 24, 1993 until August 1996. Previous appointments include Ambassador to the United Nations in 1992, Ambassador to Liberia in 1985, and Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa where he served from 1986-89.

UAPB is now accepting nursing program applicants

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (July 9, 2015) – Enrollment is now open for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year of Pre-Licensure (Generic) Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Prospective students who have completed the required prerequisite general education courses are now able to submit applications.

Students who are admitted to the pre-licensure program and successfully complete all required coursework and program requirements will be eligible to apply to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Students who pass the NCLEX-RN will be licensed to practice as a registered nurse.

High School Weightlifting Exhibition scheduled at Pine Bluff Convention Center

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Mid-South Fitness & Personal Trainers Association is sponsoring a High School Weightlifting Exhibition on Saturday, July 11 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

This event is geared toward high school male and female athletes, and it will teach how to build muscle, increase strength, lose body fat, maximize performance and minimize overtraining. A panel of five fitness trainers will also discuss health and nutrition. Door prizes will be given away throughout the day.

A Community Sports Award will also be presented to Pine Bluff High School for winning the 6A Arkansas State Championship in both basketball and football. This event is free for student athletes, however, pre-registration is required. City-wide clean-up day in Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - Officials are asking the citizens of Pine Bluff to come together and help with the city-wide clean-up. 

On Saturday, June 13, starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 1 p.m. supporters of the City of Pine Bluff will clean-up areas that need it the most. Lunch for the volunteers will be served at 1 p.m.

Pine Bluff's Second Annual Pastors and Community Prayer Luncheon

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Church Outreach Committee (COC) of Pine Bluff invites all clergy, community leaders and citizens to participate in the Second Annual Pastors and Community Prayer Luncheon. 

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center, located at 1 Convention Center Drive in Pine Bluff. There is no charge for the meal. The committee is asking everyone to come, have lunch, fellowship and pray together for our government (city, county, state and national), the faith community, law enforcement, business and industry, education (children and youth), and the community.

UAPB to mark 142 years during Founder’s Celebration

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (UAPB) - The Inaugural Founders and Honors Convocation is the beginning of a new Founder’s Celebration tradition for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. This noble event to be held Thursday, April 23 combines two time-honored activities into one momentous occasion that acknowledges University heritage and academic competence concurrently. 

The theme of the event is "Honoring the Legacy: Blending the Past and Future." Activities for the week will begin Tuesday, April 21 and continue through Sunday, April 26, according to university officials.

Female inmates being transferred to work-release program

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas Department of Correction will begin transferring female inmates to the agency's work-release program in Pine Bluff on Saturday. 

The Pine Bluff Re-entry Center will house 54 women. Qualifications for those able to be in the program include those that are within 30 months of parole, with non-violent convictions and have a clean disciplinary record.

As part of the program, the inmates will work paid jobs in the community under SAJ Distributors Inc., Tyson and AmeriPride. They will use their income to partially reimburse the state for their care and custody and provide one-third to any dependents.
