Police track fake checks, money orders to Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) -- Monday  the Pine Bluff Police Department’s Detective Division was contacted by a Homeland Security Customs and Border Protection Special Agent in reference to counterfeit money orders and cashier’s checks. The money orders and cashier’s checks were sent to 48-year-old Annette Johnson, according to Pine Bluff police.

Authorities say the package was originally targeted by Customs and Border Patrol in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upon inspection there were 264 counterfeit money orders at $925.00 each, 48 counterfeit cashier’s checks at $4,950.00 each and 41 counterfeit cashier’s checks at $3,950.00 each in the package.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The latest homicide in Pine Bluff does not dampen our spirit or weaken our resolve with the ICVR Respect for Life initiative the goal remains unwavering; to reduce homicides in the community especially among African-Americans, according to a spokesman.

The ramifications of these senseless acts of violence and killings destroy life but more importantly these acts destroy progress and curtails opportunity for economic development and growth resulting in the city's inability to attract jobs. We plan to step up our communication with clergy in order to get a greater number to participate; in addition to emails we will begin making personal phone calls along with personal visits to determine the lack of participation by some.

Weed and Seed Coffee with the Chiefs is scheduled for 9 am to 10 am in the morning September 07, 2011, at First United Methodist Church located 200 West Sixth Avenue in Pine Bluff. Shot Spotter's Senior Vice-President for North America Gregg Rowland from North Carolina is scheduled to address members of law enforcement, clergy and community regarding the gunshot location device.  ShotSpotter provides gunshot detection and location solutions for law enforcement agencies. Utilizing a wide area network of acoustic sensors, ShotSpotter detects, triangulate and provide the address and audio recording of gunshots to law enforcement agencies all within 10-15 seconds of the shot being fired.

Pine Bluff Most Wanted: Kendrick Hampton

On August 13, 2011 at approximately 5:45 a.m., Pine Bluff Police were dispatched to the 3600 block of Missouri Street to a report of gunshots in the area.

When they arrived, they found blood at the scene. They believe Kendrick Hampton, 24, had shot Reshelle Smith, 23.  Just over an hour later, the vehicle that had earlier been driven by Smith was located in the county on Bohannon Road with Smith lying unresponsive in the passenger seat.  She was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Hampton is still at large, and is considered armed and dangerous. A no bond Capital Murder warrant has been issued, and the Pine Bluff Police Department will extradite anywhere in the United States.

Police are seeking information that could lead to the capture of Kendrick Hampton.  A cash reward will be offered for information leading to arrest of suspect.

Thou Shall Not Kill Campaign
The ICVR Respect for Life and PEN OR PENCIL are collaborating with members of the Muhammad Study Group of the Nation of Islam along with local pastors to launch the largest public awareness campaign aimed at reducing homicides in Pine Bluff in recent times.   The "Thou Shall Not Kill Campaign" is a direct result of the escalating homicides occurring in Pine Bluff. The campaign will kick-off at 10 am on Saturday morning August 27, 2011, at the Truth and Love Worship Center located 2006 West 13th Avenue.   "The goal is to promote public awareness and solidarity in this city to reduce homicides.
