Registration open for girls in STEM Leadership Conference

PINE BLUFF, AR (January 28, 2016) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) continues to expand its portfolio of innovative STEM programs to help ensure a diverse and well-prepared U.S. STEM workforce. 

UAPB received an award from the Carl D. Perkins Technical Education Act of 2006 from the Arkansas STEM Coalition, in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the Arkansas Department of Career Education to support the 2016 Girls in STEM Conference. With the theme, “Ladies STEMulated to Learn,” the one-day conference will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm in the STEM Building and Conference Center. The event is free, however, registration is required to attend. 

Tour for Diversity in Medicine to visit UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - A group of medical professionals from all over the U.S. are paying a visit the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff to provide free interactive workshops to high school and college students in February.

The Tour for Diversity in Medicine, a volunteer initiative developed by two young physicians to educate, inspire and cultivate the next generation of minorities in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy, will visit the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Thursday, February 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the STEM Academy and Conference Center.

UAPB theatrical season to debut with Hope’s Return November 19

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Love, isolation, war and prayer are all of the essential elements that make up the unraveling of the play, Hope’s Return by Nikki Skies.

This upcoming production of the 2015-2016 John-McLinn Ross Player’s pivotal season is sure to illuminate societal issues.  In this enticing play, Hope, a soldier, was sent to war to serve her country. Upon her return home to Georgia to live a normal life, reality indicates that it’s much easier said than done.  She struggles with the desire to pursue dreams of becoming a teacher while her religious family wants her back in church and traumatic flashback experiences from the war want her back in Iraq.

Pine Bluff Arsenal hosts holiday event

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - Pine Bluff Arsenal’s Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host a holiday bazaar on November12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Creasy Auditorium.

The auditorium is located outside Plainview Gate, in the Creasy Complex. More than 15 vendors will be present.

This event is open to the public.

An Evening with Grady Nichols Smooth Jazz Concert

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Tickets are now on sale for An Evening with Grady Nichols Smooth Jazz Concert at Little Rock Marriott Hotel on Saturday, August 13, 2016.

At 7:15 p.m. on August 13 in the Salon A Ballroom if the Little Rock Marriott Hotel, you can find time to relax and help raise funds for lupus. Treat yourself to the cash bar or dance the night away listening to jazz hits by Grady Nichols.  

Tickets to the event are $30 each in advance and $40 each at the door. You can buy tickets over the phone by calling (501) 525-9380 or (800) 294-8878. Tickets can be mailed upon receipt of check or money order to Lupus Foundation of Arkansas, Inc. located at 220 Mockingbird Hot Springs, AR 71913. PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Marching Musical Machine of the MidSouth at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, affectionately known as M4, is looking to continue the university's alumni involvement by opening up registration to them to perform at the 2015 homecoming. 

For the last few years, alumni of this ensemble have come back to perform during the homecoming parade and at halftime during the game. As a way to keep the relationship between the university and its alumni alive, registration is open to all former members of M4 for homecoming 2015. The fee for registration is $50 per person.

According to band officials, practice will be held Friday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. and at 11 a.m. on November 14.

Pine Bluff Hosts the 2015 Student Angler Federation Southern Conference Championship

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Bass Federation/Student Angler Federation is coming to the Arkansas River for their 2015 Southern Conference Regional High School Fishing Tournament on Saturday, October 17. 

The top 10 percent of teams in each state championship advance to a conference championship. Qualifiers from AR, KS, LA, MO, NE, NM, OK and TX are eligible to compete in this event.

Takeoff will be at 7 a.m., and the weigh-in is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Regional Park.

During the tournament will also be fishing clinics and demonstrations, a children’s fishing derby (at Martin Luther King Park) and activities for the public, which will take place at the Waterfront Facility in Regional Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

This event is sponsored by the UAPB Aquaculture/Fisheries Center, Pine Bluff Parks & Recreation and the Pine Bluff Convention & Visitors Bureau.
