PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - Pine Bluff Police and witnesses said a Pine Bluff grandmother's death is a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shooters looking to kill a man they believed to be inside a Pine Bluff apartment instead took the life of an innocent woman picking up her grandchildren.

In windshields, hoods, and even doors, bullet holes could be found Tuesday all around Lakeview Apartments in Pine Bluff. The holes are evidence from a late night shooting that killed 54-year-old Carol Baker. Marquita Bullard heard it all from inside her living room.

"I just heard gunshots, and I dropped down to the ground, and after I heard the car squealing off, I came outside and my friend girl was outside hollering and crying. I ran down the stair and from there, I saw Mrs. Baker laid out dead," described Bullard.

Baker was at the apartment to pick up her son's children from their mother. As she left, police said Michael Rentals, Fitzpatrick Kemp, Kendal Porter and another suspect all opened fire, intending to strike a man they believed was inside but instead killed Baker. All three suspects are charged with capital murder and are being held without bond at the Jefferson County Detention Center.

"At first I thought it was fire crackers, but the way they was shooting, I don't know what they had," said one resident who found bullet holes in his truck and in his door.

That resident and others who wished not to be identified are now worried it could happen again. But, Bullard said she isn't afraid to stay, and she is only grieving with Baker's family over a loss that should have never happened.

"That was an innocent woman. She got killed over something that didn't even have anything to do with her. That's just sad. Somebody's momma and grandmomma gone for nothing," said Bullard.

Police are still looking for the fourth suspect in the shooting. They are asking anyone with information to text their tip line CRIMES (274637) followed by the Pine Bluff Police Department code, PBPD (7273). Any information provided through those texts will remain anonymous. You can also call the PBPD Detective Division. That number is (870) 730-2090.
