Man run over while protecting his sister from ex-boyfriend

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - A family fight in Pine Bluff Saturday lead to the death of a loved one, and now the family of 39 year-old Jimmy Edwards is left looking for answers.

Edwards died after getting hit by a truck driven by his sister's ex-boyfriend. His sister's ex-boyfriend is 44-year-old Will Dodson. Family and police say Edwards' sister had been arguing with Dodson. When Dodson backed out of the family's driveway on Mallard Drive, Dodson struck Edwards with his truck.

Dodson took off, but deputies found him hours later in Monticello. They arrested him and are holding him in the Jefferson County detention center.

Dodson's arrest gives the Edwards very little comfort. "He will always be my baby," said Edwards' mother, Betty Edwards.

His family says everyone knew Jimmy as a kind-hearted person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. "He always smiled. Even whenever times were hard, he continued to smile," said family friend Christina Carrington.

Friday night's events left her along with everyone else in the family with a sense of appreciation for life.

"Teach me to love more, and not to take anything for granted anymore, because life can be short," Carrington added.

For now, Will Dodson is being charged with manslaughter and recklessly causing a death. He is being held without bond until his first appearance in court.
