PBPD: Officer shoots fleeing murder suspect

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - Arkansas State Police have taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting of a wanted murder suspect outside of a Pine Bluff mall Saturday night.

THV11 spoke to some of the frequent shoppers at that mall on Sunday. Somewhere shocked to hear that it happened at Pines Mall, while some were not.

"I didn't even know there was a shooting. I really didn't”, said one shopper.

ASP said police then began firing at White as he began driving away. White ditched the vehicle on Harding Avenue and began traveling on foot. He was located soon after. When police found him, he was suffering from a gunshot wound. White was transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment.

Shoppers at Pines Mall on Sunday were asking themselves why Pine Bluff police chose a busy mall to arrest a wanted suspect.

"I think they should have waited to arrest him, and not arrest him in a public place where kids go,” said a mother shopping with her kids.

"You're putting other people's lives in danger. Especially if he's got a warrant, and he's carrying a gun. He's not going to be worrying about what you think or how you feel. He's doing what he can to not go to jail,” said Pine Bluff resident, Eric Lea.

Police said no shoppers were hurt during the incident.
