UAPB to mark 142 years during Founder’s Celebration

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (UAPB) - The Inaugural Founders and Honors Convocation is the beginning of a new Founder’s Celebration tradition for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. This noble event to be held Thursday, April 23 combines two time-honored activities into one momentous occasion that acknowledges University heritage and academic competence concurrently. 

The theme of the event is "Honoring the Legacy: Blending the Past and Future." Activities for the week will begin Tuesday, April 21 and continue through Sunday, April 26, according to university officials.

Female inmates being transferred to work-release program

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas Department of Correction will begin transferring female inmates to the agency's work-release program in Pine Bluff on Saturday. 

The Pine Bluff Re-entry Center will house 54 women. Qualifications for those able to be in the program include those that are within 30 months of parole, with non-violent convictions and have a clean disciplinary record.

As part of the program, the inmates will work paid jobs in the community under SAJ Distributors Inc., Tyson and AmeriPride. They will use their income to partially reimburse the state for their care and custody and provide one-third to any dependents.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (UAPB) - Gov. Asa Hutchinson will deliver the keynote address for spring commencement exercises for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) spring graduating class.

This event will be held Saturday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center arena.

PINE BLUFF, Ark.(UAPB) - Award-winning journalist and national television personality T.J. Holmes will deliver the keynote speech during the Men’s Day assembly at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). The free, public event will be held Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m. in the STEM Conference Center.

U.S. representatives to visit Pine Bluff Arsenal

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - U.S. Representative French Hill and U.S. Representative Bruce Westerman will be touring the Pine Bluff Arsenal during the month of April.

The pair will be receiving the tours and informational briefings on Monday, April 5. The visit will include tours of manufacturing facilities and an outdoor demonstration of pyrotechnic ammunition.

French Hill is the U.S. representative for the second district in Arkansas, and Bruce Westerman is the U.S. representative for the fourth district in Arkansas. 

UAPB among schools chosen for girls in STEM grant

UAPB among schools chosen for girls in STEM grant

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (UAPB) – The Arkansas STEM Coalition, in partnership with the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the Arkansas Department of Career Education, announces the award of $76,000 from the Carl D. Perkins Technical Education Act of 2006 to support eleven STEM Leadership for Girls Conferences held to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. The one-day conferences will be held in April and May 2015.  The purpose of the grant funding is to improve opportunities and services to Arkansas female students, particularly in grades 10-12 and in grades 13-14 which are freshman and sophomore years.  In addition the conferences will promote interest in STEM career fields and ultimately reduce the stereotype that these fields are mainly for males. This program hopes to encourage young females to pursue collegiate careers in STEM related occupations.
