Why purchase heartworm preventative from vet?

Why purchase heartworm preventative from vet?

Why should you purchase your pet's heartworm preventative from a veternarian instead of an internet pharmacy?

There is a very, very simple answer!  The pharmaceutical companies that make heartworm preventatives will guarantee their products when you purchase from your veterinarian, but will not guarantee products purchased through Internet pharmacies.  We know that nothing in life is 100%, and the same is true of heartworm preventatives.  Regular and consistent use of heartworm prevention remains our best tactic in the battle against heartworm disease, but it is possible, though rare, for a pet who is on heartworm prevention to contract the disease.

If your pet tests positive for heartworms, and your veterinary records indicate consistent use of preventatives and annual heartworm testing, then the pharmaceutical company is willing to pay toward your pet's treatment expenses, offsetting the cost significantly.  We have

Joey's Cute Pet Photo Contest

Joey's Cute Pet Photo Contest

It's that time of the year again where I get to have my very own contest - Joey's Cute Pet Photo Contest for all pets!

My friends at Bedford Camera & Video have generously produced a beautiful coffee mug and mouse pad for the winners to choose from. Now, because I think every pet is cute I randomly select the winners each week.  It is very important when you upload your photo to Today's THV website, include name of pet and where you live in the description. Eleven winners will be selected during the month of July and shown on Today's THV Morning Show.

This contest is for Arkansas residents only. Thanks for playing along! -- Joey

PETA: Safeguard your pet during severe weather

PETA: Safeguard your pet during severe weather

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — As weather forecasters warn Arkansas residents to brace for even more severe thunderstorms, flooding, and possible tornadoes this week, PETA is offering important advice for ensuring the safety of companion animals should residents experience major storm damage or flooding and be forced to evacuate. Please alert your audience to the following information, which could help save the lives of cats, dogs, birds, and other companion animals who need to be included in tornado and other disaster preparation plans:

  • If a tornado is expected in your area and you evacuate, never leave your animals behind. If the tornado is a threat to you, it's a threat to them. If you seek safety within your residence, be sure to include all your animals. If the storm causes flooding, never leave your animals outdoors, tied up, or confined in any way, as they will be trapped and unable to flee rising waters.
  • Know your destination ahead of time.
