High school bands perform at UAPB festival

PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The Music Department at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will host their annual Pre-Region festival on Thursday, February 24 at 12 pm in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts auditorium.

High school bands from Pine Bluff, Little Rock and Jacksonville will participate. The purpose of this event is to offer meaningful feedback to directors and students in performance preparation for their respective region festivals.  Schools will receive comment sheets from the instrumental music faculty, an audio recording, and an optional clinic on stage following their performance.

Circle of Pride encourages student giving

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Circle of Pride exists to champion students to grow personally, professionally and socially by incorporating philanthropic acts into their daily lives. Circle of Pride members will reach out to their colleagues creating an awareness of the connection between students and philanthropy.

The Circle of Pride will provide opportunities that will inspire and aid their peers in a successful collegiate matriculation. This will be achieved by soliciting monetary gifts on a personal level and seeking out gifts from others.

Students are encouraged to give at any Club Level.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Pine Bluff High School will host a rally-style assembly to motivate its 900+ students to begin their pursuit of a college education.

Award-winning media personality Michael Adrian Davis of Little Rock’s Hallelujah FM will highlight the event as featured speaker.  The event will include performances by the PBHS cheerleading squad and marching band, as a part Say Go College Week, an effort lead by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, to help Arkansas high school students academically and financially prepare for college.

The rally is Friday, Feb. 18 at 9 a.m. in the PBHS gym.

PINE BLUFF, Ark. In association with Say Go College Week, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will host College Goal Sunday February 20 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Henderson-Young Hall, rooms 203 and 209.

College Goal Sunday is a one-day event to help students and families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Arkansas Universal Scholarship Application.

Honors students to receive iPad 2

Honors students to receive iPad 2

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — The Southern Arkansas University Honors College will conduct a pilot study during the fall 2011 semester by providing iPad 2 tablet computers for all 60 of its anticipated students enrolled in the introductory course, Honors Seminar.

These students will receive their own iPad 2 to keep and the Honors Seminar course’s format will be adjusted to maximize the power of the iPad 2 as a teaching device, according to Dr. Edward P. Kardas, director of the Honors College. The iPad 2 is the highly anticipated successor to the iPad, released last year with sales exceeding 14 million units to date.

 The iPad 2 will likely add two cameras, additional RAM, a faster processor and will be thinner and lighter than the original.
